- I’m new to Reiki. What can I expect at my first visit?
Most people feel a sense of relaxation during a Reiki session. The initial visit will start with a 10-15 minute conversation regarding your current struggles and goals for the session. Then you will be invited to lie down on the Reiki table. You will be fully clothed during the entire session so plan on wearing comfortable clothes. Most people are most comfortable taking off their shoes while on the Reiki table. Some people like to close their eyes during the session or use an eye pillow. Blankets are available for extra cozy comfort. Relaxing music will be playing in the background during your session.
2. Is there anything I should do to prepare for the session?
The only thing I ask is that you have an openness to receiving Reiki. Reiki always honors your highest good and meets you where you are. All you need to do is be open to receiving!
3. How long does the Reiki session last? Can I have a shorter session?
The visit will be 60 minutes with some talking time before and after the hands-on portion of your Reiki session. Shorter sessions can be arranged by request.
4. Do I need to lay down during the session?
The goal is for you to be comfortable during the session. If it is more comfortable to sit, then you may sit instead.
5. Will there be physical touch during the session?
Reiki can be shared with or without physical touch. You choose your preference between light touch or a hovering technique. Either option is effective. The practitioners’ hands will rest or hover over different areas of the body in stillness making it different than a massage.
6. Are there any potential side effects or sensations I might experience during or after a session?
Many people report feeling heat in the area where the practitioner has her hands. People often feel the heat in that area even after the practitioner has moved to another area. All of this is “normal” and reflects the movement or release of stored energy from the body. Some people report feeling tingling or seeing colors in their mind’s eye during the session.
The most common response post session is a sense of deep relaxation. Others have reported decreased physical or emotional pain, feeling lighter, anxiety relief and improved mood.
7. You are a Nurse Practitioner, can I come to you as my primary provider?
I am happy to share Reiki as a complementary modality to your existing medical plan of care with your team of medical providers. While I do have the training and experience as a Nurse Practitioner, I do not work as a primary medical provider at The Haven Within Reiki. I am able to refer you to an integrative provider if that is what you are looking for.
8. Do you take insurance?
No, Reiki is not a billable service with insurance companies at this time.
9. Can I ask questions or provide feedback during the session?
Absolutely, this is about you and your experience. You are welcome to ask questions or talk about what you are feeling during the session. Some people choose to discuss their experience after the session, but it is completely up to you.
10. How often do you recommend I schedule Reiki sessions?
In order to fully receive the benefits of Reiki is recommended to come for 3 sessions. The timing of these sessions is up to you. Some people come weekly during certain seasons of life and others come monthly or once every couple of months. The choice for how often to have sessions is up to you!
11. What is the cost for a Reiki session?
A 60-minute session is $100.
Shorter sessions are available per request.
12. What is your cancellation policy?
Clients are asked to provide at least 24 hours’ notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. We will send appointment confirmation and reminder notifications to help you keep track of your scheduled sessions.
No shows may be subject to a cancellation fee.
